Timor and its associated islands are located within the biologically distinctive region of Wallacea and support a rich diversity of animals and plants, including many species that are found nowhere else in the world. BirdLife International has defined these islands as the “Timor and Wetar Endemic Bird Area” (EBA), because they support 35 bird species with restricted ranges including 23 that are entirely confined to the EBA.
